Augmented Her
With the photographic self-portrait I can stop the moment, I can contain it, I can make it an object, and I can store it away for another time (or give to another). I'm exposing the condition of photography as stasis and creating "Her" as I produce these self-portraits. "Her" is preserving the self as an object and cutting from time a moment that was. But with digital photography the minute I have uploaded the digital self-portrait and have stepped away from the keyboard (AFK), my identity continues without me. "Her" is no longer just cut from time and from the real. "Her" is now more fluid and interactive as the image connects to statuses, updates, other images, taggings, and shares.
My identity is no longer IRL; it is no longer just a moment that had the possibility of being photographed and preserved. It is no longer just an object that can be looked back upon and considered in terms of an easily recognized happening of nostalgia. My identity is this Post-Internet environment is no longer contingent upon stasis and the photograph. "Her" is fluid; it is IRL being augmented with my connections to various digital apparatuses. Augmented Her is the expansion of identity beyond an object, time, and the photograph. It is exploring identity, and the body, in front of the camera as it expands via the Internet to explore how we relate to others and ourselves. But the glitch is to remind the viewer that the expansion can be interrupted and also reminds the viewer that the self, "Her", is AFK at the moment.
TL:DR Is identity WSIWYG?
